This Dresden Plate quilt dates to the early–mid 1930s and was hand-pieced, hand-appliqued and hand-quilted using a wide variety of colorful scrap fabrics typical of the era. The quilt features classic rounded Dresden Plate blocks and has a unique touch - appliquéd four-leaf clover centers - all set on a white cotton background and finished with a scalloped edge. In another unique touch, the quilter added applique leaves in three-to-four spots around each Dresden plate.
The hand quilting is tiny and expertly done and is in interlocking circles and outlines of the patchwork and the applique. The back is white cotton while the binding is green cotton that has been hand-stitched to both sides of the scalloped edge. The cotton batting is very lightweight.
Due to age-related wear, fading (especially of the green cottons) thinning, and fabric loss at the blade edges in many of the Dresden plates, this quilt is being offered as a cutter / crafting quilt. The back, ice cream cone border and binding are in very good condition -- the condition issues involve the Dresden plates themselves as can be seen in the photos.
This is a genuine Depression-era quilt with beautiful character, soft wear, and true vintage charm.
