This is an Amethyst or Snowball quilt, a classic early 20th century pattern, in this case from the late 1920s–1930s. Hand pieced and hand quilted, the design features repeating four-pointed star motifs set on point, creating a striking all-over geometric pattern against a cream/white ground.
The quilt is made from authentic Depression-era cottons in soft pastel shades of lavender (amethyst), pink, blue, green, yellow, and coral. The quilting is in outlines of the many stars and their individual points.
The back is a cream/white cotton, with both sides turned inward for a self-finished edge (no applied binding) as was more commonly done in the early 20th century. The batting is lightweight but fluffy and therefore between light-and-medium weight.
