This authentic antique Dutch Tile quilt dates to the early 20th century, circa 1900–1920. The hand-quilting is expertly done in tiny stitches in outlines of the patchwork and, along the two-sided border, in cross-hatch grids.
Hand pieced and hand quilted, the quilt features a classic Dutch Tile layout with eight-pointed star forms created through chamfered square blocks. The fabrics include a wonderful mix of early shirtings, ginghams, small florals, turkey red accents, cadet blues, and early pinks, all characteristic of the period.
The back is a homespun green cotton while the binding is pink cotton that has been hand-stitched to both sides. The cotton batting is unsized and light-to-medium weight.
In generally good condition, the quilt is solid and sturdy but there are age-related issues like fading, fabric thinning, several small holes/seam separations, fraying along the binding, and a dark spot about the size of a nickel. See photos. For these reasons, the quilt is being sold as a cutter or crafting quilt
Despite the wear, the quilt retains strong visual impact, original hand quilting, and excellent examples of early cotton prints that are increasingly difficult to find.
