1930s Kitten Quilt – Hand-Appliquéd Folk Art Cat Textile (50x79")

This very charming 1930s Depression-era Kitten in a Basket quilt features rows of hand-appliquéd kittens peeking from patterned baskets, each one unique. The little feline faces are hand embroidered, as are other areas of each motif. Made with authentic 1930s cotton prints and set on a soft white background, the quilt is finely hand-quilted in a cross-hatch grid and 8-petal flowers within the body and in a diagonal grid along the four-sided border.

The back is white cotton that has been turned to the front and hand-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is lightweight.

The quilt is in excellent vintage condition with one small area of fabric loss on one kitten motif and some minor very early fraying of the binding in one area. See photos.
