This very sweet and cheerful Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt dates to the late 1920s to the 1930s Depression era and is entirely hand-pieced from more than 1,000 hexagons and hand-quilted in outlines of each of the tiny hexagons. The top and bottom contain half-gardens that make straight edges while the two side borders are scalloped.
The quilt features hundreds of individually pieced “flower gardens" each with a yellow hexagon center, arranged across a soft ivory ground. The fabrics include a wonderful variety of original 1930s cotton prints, including delicate florals and feed-sack style patterns in cheerful pastel and jewel tones. The back is a soft vintage pink cotton that has been turned to the front and hand-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is lightweight.
The quilt has been well-preserved and is in excellent condition with no condition issues noted.
