This charming antique hand-embroidered child’s quilt dates from the late 1930s to the early 1940s and features whimsical folk-art motifs of chickens and ducks, all stitched by hand on soft white cotton blocks. The hand-quilting is in cross-hatch grids and diagonals that frame each block, as well as in outlines of the patchwork.
The quilt is pieced in cheerful pink, pale blue, and butter yellow solids, with a four-patch at the corners of the sashing that surrounds each duck and chicken block. The embroidery is in simple running and outline stitches typical of Depression-era nursery and crib quilts.
The back is solid white cotton while the binding is blue cotton that has been hand-stitched to both sides in very tiny stitches.
The quilt is freshly cleaned and is in excellent vintage condition with no condition issues noted.
