  • Details
This is a museum-worthy quilt in Log Cabin-Album Variation with an inscription that reads: "Made for E.M. Pratt by his grandmother Mrs. M.E. Cooper, 1892". It is a wonderful example of late 19th century scrap-bag quilting from the Victorian era and features a crisp white ground contrasted with tiered, vibrant blocks, each of which is unique.

The fabrics include Turkey Reds, Indigo Prints with deep blues with delicate calico patterns, Mourning Prints with subtle greys and blacks used in Victorian commemorative wear, along with shirting prints that have small-scale geometrics and florals on cream and tan grounds.

The quilting is in double diagonals and outlines of the patchwork. The back is white cotton while the binding is a Turkey Red and black print that has been hand-stitched to both sides. The cotton batting is lightweight.

This 134-year-old quilt is in very good condition for its age, with a fraying binding and some fabric loss in the "logs" as shown in the photos. It is sturdy and the colors are still amazingly vibrant.
