This bold antique scrap Chevron Coverlet dates to approximately 1910–1925 and was constructed as a lightweight coverlet or summer spread. It has finished edges and a black cotton back, but no batting and no quilting. It has been carefully hand-tied at intersections, giving it structure while keeping it light and flexible.
The design consists of strip-pieced blocks in cottons and silks arranged in a staggered layout, creating a lively, almost modernist rhythm. The strong black backing and border beautifully frame the vibrant fabrics. The fabrics include: • Brilliant aniline reds • Chrome yellows • Early synthetic greens • Plaids, ginghams, shirtings, and dress prints • Deep purples and indigos • Textural woven dress goods
It is in excellent antique condition with some shattered silks (see photos).
