This is an exceptional antique Honeycomb Quilt Top, hand pieced using the English Paper Piecing (EPP) method and likely begun in the late 19th century and finished by several generations of quilters. The fabrics include late 1800s black-and-white and navy shirtings typical of the era's dress fabrics, deep indigoes, browns, and mourning/half-mourning prints, and small-scale geometrics. On the other hand, several brighter red solids and later prints appear to have been added in the early 20th century, suggesting this was a generational family project — a quilt top built slowly over decades from saved dress scraps.
Please note: This is a quilt top only. It is not quilted and has no batting or backing.
It is in excellent antique condition with some slight fading in some of the fabrics.
