This is a classic American farmhouse quilt in bold red and white and a Double Irish Chain pattern, dating to the 1930s through 1940s. Entirely hand pieced and hand quilted, the quilting features diagonal crosshatching in the white blocks and hand-stitched X motifs in the red squares.
The back is white cotton that has been turned to the front and machine-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is lightweight.
Condition: Because of fabric loss along one border (the one covered by white fabric), fraying along edges, and small areas of thinning here and there in the body of the quilt (see photos), this quilt is being sold as a cutter quilt. It still displays beautifully, but it is not suitable for regular bed use.
