  • Details
This beautiful 19th-century Wind Mill Quilt has been intricately hand-quilted, apparently as a group project since there are four embroidered signatures on the back and a monogram quilted into the front (see photos). The hand-quilting is in feather wreaths in the white blocks and in diagonals and double-diagonals within the patchwork.

Dating to circa 1880-1900, the quilt features the unusual Windmill pattern in a crisp, classic indigo blue and white palette. The blue fabric is a genuine indigo discharge print with a delicate pin-dot pattern—a favorite among collectors and textile artists.

The back is white cotton that has been turned to the front and hand-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is lightweight.

Condition: This is being sold as a CUTTER QUILT. It has lived a long life and shows significant wear, including fabric loss on some blue blocks and white blocks, fraying along the border along, several tears along the binding and some stitch loss in some of the quilting.
