This beautiful Wild Goose Chase quilt top dates to the Depression era, circa 1935–1945, and features a classic arrangement of flying geese triangles pieced from a wonderful assortment of fabrics typical of the feedsack era, including tiny calicos, ginghams, stripes, dots, and soft chambray blues. The palette of pale blue, soft pink, and neutral prints is especially characteristic of quilts made during the 1930s and early 1940s.
The Wild Goose Chase pattern has long symbolized travel and traditionally said to represent journeys, migration, or the path home.
