This Grandmother's Flower Garden Quilt Top, circa 1940s, is a testament to patience and craftsmanship as it is entirely hand-stitched from hundreds of hexagons using a beautiful array of authentic Depression-era and early WWII-period fabrics.
The Fabrics & Palette • Authentic 1930s Feed Sacks: Delightful small-scale florals, lavender ginghams, and "shirting" prints. • Early 1940s Brights: Bolder pops of turquoise, "shocking pink," and saturated oranges that transitioned into the mid-century aesthetic. • The "Path" & Centers: All "flowers" are anchored by uniform butter-yellow centers and set against a crisp, white hexagonal "path" that makes the colors truly sing.
Condition: This is a quilt top only, meaning it has been meticulously pieced but not yet layered with batting or a backing and not quilted. It is in excellent vintage condition with no issues noted. • Maker’s Marks: In several areas, the original basting stitches are still visible on the reverse, showing the incredible labor involved in wrapping each individual hexagon.
