Antique 1890s Ocean Waves Quilt Top – Exceptional Small-Scale Patchwork – 65” x 80”

This is a striking antique Ocean Waves quilt top, beautifully hand pieced and dating to approximately 1890–1910, based on the fabrics and construction. The quilt top showcases the incredible skill and patience of its maker, with hundreds of tiny triangles forming the dynamic, flowing “Ocean Waves” pattern.

The quilt top uses a wide variety of beautiful prints:
• Light shirting grounds with small black geometric prints typical of the 1880–1910 period
• A rich mix of indigo blues, cadet blues, and double blues
• Turkey reds and early chrome pinks, now softly mellowed
• Cheddar and butterscotch yellows
• Classic mourning-style black and white prints
• Small plaids, stripes, and dotted prints consistent with turn-of-the-century shirtings
• Occasional earlier-looking scraps suggest thoughtful use of available fabrics

The palette and print scale firmly place this quilt in the circa 1890–1910 era, with strong representation of 1890s–1900s shirting and dress fabrics.

CONDITION: The quilt top is in excellent vintage condition with some light toning spots. This is a quilt top ONLY - there is no batting, no back and it needs to be finished and quilted.
