Vintage Friendship Signature Quilt from the 1930s – 68” x 77”

    During the Depression, Friendship/Signature quilts were a thrifty and special way mark a wedding, anniversary or another life event. This 1930s Depression-era friendship quilt is a beautiful example of such quilts of the era, with each block hand-signed then individually embroidered, all set against a white ground and joined with cheerful pink sashing and tiny floral cornerstones. The cheerful color palette includes soft pastels, feedsack florals, and brighter pops of red, yellow, blue, and green.

    The individual blocks feature names of the era, including Myrtle, Viola Klatt, Mary Dale Ritchie, and May Pearl Friedrich and it has all been hand-quilted in cross-hatches and outlines of the patchwork.

    The back is a soft, pale yellow cotton as is the binding that has been hand-stitched to both sides. The cotton batting is lightweight.

    CONDITION: The quilt is in excellent vintage condition with some fraying to some sections of the binding and several small seam separations.
