Vintage May Basket Quilt | Hand Quilted Cottage Farmhouse Quilt | 80” x 82”

Such a joyful and beautifully preserved Depression-era “May Basket” quilt, filled with cheerful feedsack prints and soft cottage colors, this quilt features rows of pieced baskets set on point with soft blue lattice sashing. The fine hand-quilting is in outlines of the patchwork, a simple twisted rope pattern along the sashing, in feather motifs along the white border and in crosshatch grids in the open white blocks and around the baskets.

The baskets are pieced from dozens of tiny (1.5-inch) triangles in cotton prints, including florals, geometrics, polka dots, plaids, and classic feedsack fabrics in bright cherry red, pink, butter yellow, green, aqua, and blue. Pale robin’s egg blue basket handles and lattice work frame the colorful baskets.

The back is white cotton as is the very narrow binding that has been hand-stitched to both sides. The cotton batting is very lightweight.

CONDITION: The quilt is in excellent vintage condition with some slight age-related fading of the blue fabric.
