Antique 1880s Dublin Steps Quilt – Victorian Blue & Green Calico Quilt – 73” x 81”

This beautiful late 19th century Dublin Steps quilt has such striking color palette, combining rich indigo and cadet blues with soft poison green shirtings and crisp ivory accents in a wonderfully graphic geometric layout. Dating to approximately the 1880s–1890s, the hand-quilting is very precise with tiny stitches in patterns of crosshatch grids.

The fabrics throughout are also lovely with deep indigo and cadet blue calicos with tiny white floral and geometric motifs, lighter “double blue” style prints, delicate shirting fabrics with woven stripe details, and soft green grounds scattered with tiny red and white sprigs that are highly characteristic of the late 19th century. Even the cream border fabric retains a wonderfully period-appropriate tiny floral print typical of the 1880s and 1890s.

The back is an off-white cotton as is the binding that has been hand-stitched to both sides. The cotton batting is lightweight.

CONDITION: The quilt is in excellent antique condition with several tiny (1/8 inch or less) toning spots.
