Vintage 1940s–1950s Appliqué & Embroidered Child’s Quilt – 33” x 52”

This is such a sweet quilt in wonderful condition. It is a vintage child’s quilt made from a Bucilla kit, dating to approximately the 1940s–1950s. Measuring 33” x 52”, the quilt features a series of appliquéd nursery figures arranged across a white ground, including a child in a wagon, a teddy bear, rocking horse, rabbit, dinosaur, and child riding a rocking horse.

The figures are constructed in pink gingham and solid pastel cottons, with extensive hand-embroidered detailing used for faces, clothing, flowers, grass, and other small features. Particularly nice details include the embroidered dinosaur scales, the girl’s hair and apron, the rabbit’s facial features, and the tiny flowers scattered throughout the design.

A narrow pink gingham inner border frames the central scene. The entire quilt is densely quilted in an allover small-scale pattern - likely as part of the Bucilla kit - including through and around the appliquéd figures, giving the surface substantial texture. The reverse is solid white, and the quilt is finished with a narrow white binding with softly rounded corners. The cotton batting is lightweight.

Bucilla produced needlework and appliqué kits during this period that supplied the maker with coordinated materials and a printed or transferred design. The individual workmanship is still very evident here in the appliqué, embroidery, and quilting.

CONDITION: This sweet little quilt is in very good vintage condition with the appliqué and embroidery remaining bright and well defined. Please examine the photos as they form an important part of the description.
