Vintage Double Wedding Ring Quilt -- Beautifully Quilted with Scalloped Edge -- 78” x 78”

This exquisite circa 1930s–1940s Double Wedding Ring Quilt is a well-executed example of the classic pattern, with expert hand quilting and patchwork made with a large assortment of colorful period cotton prints and solids set against a white ground.

The rings contain dozens of small fabric segments in pink, yellow, blue, green, purple, orange and red, including florals, geometrics, checks and novelty-style prints typical of the Depression and WWII-era decades.

One of the strongest features of this quilt is the dense, intricate hand quilting. The quilting is in outlines of the patchwork and, in the white areas between the rings, filled with closely spaced quilting in concentric outlines and in geometric patterns.

The back is white cotton while the binding is pink cotton that has been handstitched to the front and handstitched all the way around the four-sided scalloped edge, following the outer curves of the Double Wedding Ring design. The cotton batting is very lightweight and thin.

CONDITION: Very good vintage condition with some scattered age-related fading. Please review the photos as they form an important part of the description. The quilt has been soaked, freshly hand washed and line dried, giving it a light, natural, sun-dried cotton scent (not artificially fragranced).
