An exceptional early 20th-century miniature scrap quilt measuring 10” x 13”, pieced from elongated right triangles (half-rectangle triangles) in a dynamic, staggered diagonal arrangement. Made during the 1920s to 1930s, this tiny quilt features a variety of late-19th-century to early-20th-century scrap-bag cottons.
Novelty & Shirting Prints: Features rare period prints, including a charming red crescent moon and five-pointed star motif, miniature nautical/sailboat motifs, houndstooth and graph checks, mourning-style pin-dots, and woven-look shirting stripes. Antique Dyes & Calicos: Vibrant pops of solid Turkey red provide graphic contrast against rich late-Victorian aesthetic browns, indigo/slate blues, and warm tan neutrals.
It has been hand-quilted in straight horizontal utility running stitch rows using natural white cotton thread.
Backed in a fine-scale pink-and-coral vermicular ditz calico and bound neatly around all four sides with an applied woven tape/selvedge trim. This tiny quilt does not appear to have any batting.
CONDITION: Very good, structurally sound antique condition. The cotton fabrics remain supple and strong with no shredding, fiber shattering, or open seams. There is gentle, honest age-patina throughout, including minor surface oxidation/tea-colored storage spots on a few cream background patches, fully consistent with age and authentic, untouched status.
