Charming 1930s Depression-era scrap Four-Patch Doll Quilt, measuring approximately 23” x 31”, made from an lovely assortment of period cotton fabrics. The small scale and variety of scraps make this little quilt almost a sampler of 1930s textiles.

The improvisational center is pieced from dozens of different cottons in four-patch squares interspersed with larger squares with fabrics that include blue and white shirtings, ticking-style stripes, ginghams and checks, tiny florals, calicos, geometrics, solids and colorful dress prints. The palette includes faded blues and creams alongside pink, red, aqua, green, yellow, purple and black. Some of the more subdued shirtings appear to date to the 1920s and were likely reused from an earlier scrap bag.

The hand quilting is in crisscrossing diagonals across the body of the quilt. A cheerful aqua-blue border with white polka dots surrounds the patchwork, while the back is white cotton and the binding is bright pink cotton that has been machine stitched to the front and handstitched to the back. The cotton batting is lightweight.

CONDITION: The quilt is in very good vintage condition. Please examine the photographs as they form an important part of the description.
