This is an expertly pieced and hand quilted Hearts and Gizzards quilt dating to the late 1940s or early 1950s made from solid lavender and white cotton printed with tiny lavender rosebuds and green stems.
The traditional Hearts and Gizzards pattern is designed as an intricate arrangement of alternating lavender and floral heart-shaped pieces, forming a repeating geometric and floral design across the entire quilt. As extensive as the patchwork is, the hand quilting is even more elaborate as it outlines the thousands of pieces that make up this lovely quilt. The stitches are very tiny, extremely precise and even throughout.
The four-sided border is made of the same lavender and white print used in the body of the quilt. The back is off-white/cream cotton while the narrow binding is lavender cotton that has been machine stitched to the front and handstitched to the back. The cotton batting is thin and lightweight.
CONDITION: The quilt is in excellent vintage condition and displays beautifully, with lovely color and well-defined hand quilting. Please examine all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.
