This colorful vintage Pine Burr Variation Quilt dates to the early 1940s and features individually pieced blocks incorporating an extensive assortment of vintage cotton fabrics, including florals, plaids, checks, stripes, geometric designs, and novelty prints. Many of the fabrics are characteristic of the 1920s and 1930s, with the blocks reflecting the traditional practice of using small fabric scraps in quiltmaking.
Each block features a central pinwheel arrangement surrounded by irregular string piecing, creating a distinctive geometric pattern. The blocks are arranged with alternating turquoise floral and multicolored striped sashing, separated by white cornerstones. A lavender, yellow, and green floral border completes the quilt.
It has been sewing machine quilted in outlines of the patchwork. The back is an off-white cotton that has been turned to the front and machine stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is lightweight, unsized and thin.
CONDITION: Good vintage condition for its age, with minor wear, occasional loose threads, some spots of discoloration on the back (see photos). Please examine the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description. The quilt has been soaked, freshly hand washed and line dried, giving it a light, natural, sun-dried cotton scent (not artificially fragranced).
