This is a colorful vintage 1940s Grandmother’s Flower Garden partially finished quilt featuring dozens of individually pieced hexagon flowers in a wide assortment of period cotton prints and solid fabrics. The flowers are arranged against a white background, with bright pinks, blues, yellows, purples, greens, and oranges.
The quilt was meticulously hand pieced and partially hand quilted but was never completed. Approximately one-quarter to one-third of the quilt has been hand quilted, with fine hand stitches outlining hundreds of individual hexagons, as shown in the close-up photographs.
Unlike an unfinished quilt top, this piece already has cotton backing and unsized cotton batting in place. The remaining quilting must be completed, and the unfinished edges require binding.
Details: * Circa 1940s * Measures 76” x 95” * Traditional Grandmother’s Flower Garden pattern * Hand pieced using a varied assortment of vintage cotton prints and solids * White cotton background * Cotton backing and unsized cotton batting * Approximately 25–33% hand quilted * Individual hexagons outlined with hand quilting stitches * Remaining quilting and edge binding required * Original unfinished vintage quilt project
CONDITION: Vintage unfinished condition. The quilt has been assembled with batting and backing, and a substantial portion of the hand quilting has been completed. The remaining sections are unquilted, and the edges have not been bound. Temporary basting stitches are visible in the uncompleted areas. The quilt has been soaked, freshly hand washed and line dried, giving it a light, natural, sun-dried cotton scent (not artificially fragranced).
The quilt is being sold as an unfinished project, exactly as photographed, for someone interested in completing the original hand quilting and finishing the edges.
