This beautiful antique indigo and white quilt, circa 1890s, is a striking and rare pattern - Twelve Crowns -- and is entirely hand pieced and hand quilted. The hand-quilting is in tight, straight-line grids, including through the patchwork. The deep indigo fabric shows the soft, natural shading and speckling characteristic of genuine antique indigo dyes.
The back is white cotton while the binding is a replacement added between the 1920s - 1930s to preserve the edges while maintaining the quilt's historic integrity. The cotton batting is very lightweight.
The quilt is in very good antique condition with two small areas of fabric loss to the white fabric (see photos).
The quilt is clean and soft and comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home and measures 69 inches by 72 inches. Shown on a queen-size bed.
