The solid purple chromatic colors of this Honey Bee quilt were very popular in the early 1900s through the 1920s after colors, and specifically purple, saw a big rise in use with improved aniline dyes. The quilt has an all-cotton muslin background and is very finely hand-quilted - in tiny, precise stitches - in elaborate feathers, petals and feather wreaths. The four-sided border is quilted in feathers and diagonals.
The back is white cotton muslin as is the binding that has been machine stitched to the front and hand-stitched in impossibly small stitches to the back. The cotton batting is very lightweight.
The quilt is in excellent condition with age-related overall slight fading of the purple fabric.
This lovely quilt is clean and soft and measures 75 inches by 84 inches. From a smoke-free, pet-free home. Shown on a queen-size bed.
