  • Details
This lovely 1940s embroidered signature quilt was lovingly stitched by a group of women from Flint, Bay City, Linwood, Mt. Morris, Dearborn, and other Michigan and California communities, with most dated 1943. Each white block features a different hand-embroidered name, hometown, date, and either a floral motif, wreath, butterfly, basket of flowers, or decorative border. The quilt was most likely created as a wedding or community friendship gift during the WWII era.

It is beautifully hand quilted throughout in a diagonal crosshatch/diamond pattern, with light blue and white alternating blocks forming a classic checkerboard layout. The embroidery is vibrant and meticulously worked in a wonderful variety of stitches and colors.

The back is white cotton, as is the narrow binding which has been machine-stitched to both sides. The cotton batting is lightweight.

Excellent vintage condition. Light fading due to age, especially at one edge of the border (see photos).

The quilt is clean and soft and measures 86 inches by 95". Shown on a queen-size bed, it comes from a smoke-free, pet-free home.
