  • Details
This unique vintage folk art quilt, circa 1940s-1950s, celebrates the early days of the automobile with three beautifully appliquéd historic cars. Each panel features a different early automobile model carefully rendered in colorful appliqué and embroidery: a 1903 Ford, 1907 Stutz Bearcat, and 1915 Buick. It is hand quilted throughout with simple floral and radiating quilting motifs.

Each car is framed within wide green sashing on a crisp white background, creating a bold graphic layout that highlights the automobile designs. Embroidered details for the wheels, steering wheels, and lettering have also been added.

The back is white cotton while the binding is red cotton that has been hand-stitched to both sides. The cotton batting is lightweight.

The quilt is in excellent vintage condition with some fading of the fabrics and -- in the upper lefthand corner and on the back some discolorations that are subtle on the front (and about 1-inch in length) and darker on the back.
