This beautiful quilt is a classic hexagon star quilt, circa 1940-1950s, hand pieced from hundreds of 1-inch hexagons and finished with hand quilting. The design is a variation of the Grandmother’s Flower Garden, with colorful hexagon rosettes set against striking blue hexagon star spacers that together create hexagon stars.
Each rosette is made from scrap fabrics, including: • floral feed sack prints in bright yellow, red, and pastel blues • Small ditsy florals and scattered floral sprays typical of Depression prints • Black grounds with bright floral overlays, a popular 1930s-1940s design style • Plaids and ginghams, including red-and-white and green-and-white checks commonly cut from household fabrics and shirts • Bright chrome yellow and cherry red prints, hallmark colors of the period • Turquoise and teal solid cottons used in the hexagon star spacer units, giving the quilt its distinctive graphic star pattern
The back is white cotton as is the binding that has been machine stitched to the front and hand-stitched to the back. This quilt is summer weight and contains no batting.
CONDITION: The quilt is in excellent vintage condition with no issues noted.
