This beautiful antique Bowtie Quilt dates to the early 20th century, circa 1910s–1920s, and is entirely hand pieced and hand quilted. The quilt features a classic bowtie variation set on point and constructed from a mix of indigo and cadet blue shirtings, ginghams, stripes, and small-scale prints, with soft ivory accents and occasional brighter pops of red and yellow, all arranged on a rich blue ground. The quilting is even and consistent and is done in outlines of the patchwork.
The back is an early solid green cotton that has been turned to the front and hand-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is unsized and very lightweight.
The quilt is in very good antique condition with some pulled threads and partial seam separations, consistent with more than a century old, entirely hand-stitched patchwork (see photos).
