This delightful 1930s “Kittens Around the World” quilt features dozens of hand-embroidered kittens, each dressed in traditional costumes representing countries from around the globe. Since it was made prior to Hawaii becoming a U.S. state (which happened in 1959), Hawaii is one of the other "countries." Rendered in navy blue embroidery on a soft white cotton ground, the panels include Spain, Japan, England, Lapland, Hawaii, India, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, Holland, Scotland, Sweden, and more.
Each square is individually embroidered, then hand quilted in outlines of the blocks. The back is 1930s blue cotton toile, which has been turned to the front and hand-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is lightweight.
The quilt is in excellent vintage condition with no condition issues noted.
