Charming folk-art Sampler Quilt, dated 1929. This is a genuine piece of Depression-era Americana needlework featuring delightful hand-embroidered, hand-appliqued and hand-pieced blocks of kittens, flowers, a butterfly, a pine bough, a squirrel, an airplane and more. The quilt is hand-tied, giving it a light, cozy feel.
The back is a tan geometric patterned cotton that has been turned to the front and hand-stitched to form the binding. The quilt has been crocheted/tatted around all four sides as a unique and final finishing touch. See photos.
The quilt is in excellent vintage condition, with light toning, minor small marks and variations in stitching consistent with handmade folk art. The quilt is stable and sturdy.
The quilt comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home and measures 66 inches by 76 inches. Shown on a queen-size bed, this quilt has a display sleeve sewn into the back.
