This is a beautiful antique Log Cabin quilt in the classic Barn Raising layout, entirely foundation-pieced, hand-pieced and hand-quilted. It uses a wonderful array of late 19th-century scrap fabrics all surrounding vibrant Turkey red centers. Specifically, the fabrics are late 19th century cottons, including: • Turkey red centers • Indigo and cadet blues • Double pinks and cinnamon pinks • Small-scale shirting prints • Early black-and-white mourning prints • Plaids and woven stripes • Plum, brown, and burgundy prints typical of the 1880s–1900 • Delicate light-ground florals • Early geometrics and dotted prints
Several pieces likely date to the 1870s–1880s, with the quilt most likely assembled circa 1890–1910. The back is a lovely, delicate feather print in shades of tan. The cotton batting is very lightweight.
The quilt is in very good antique condition with several shattered/frayed patches (see photos).
Details: • Entirely hand-pieced • Hand-quilted • Scrap construction • Traditional Barn Raising layout • Red center Log Cabin blocks • Size: 68” x 80”
The quilt comes from a smoke-free, pet-free home and is pictured on a queen-size bed. CL0036
