  • Details
This striking Lady of the Lake variation of a Flock of Geese Quilt, dates from the 1920s through early 1930s and was documented in 1989 by the Museum of American Folk Art’s New York Quilt Project (Museum Index DEL-052). The Quilt Index Record is 49-142-5578 and a copy of the documented listing comes with the quilt that in 1989 belonged to a family member of the maker who lived in Harpersfield, New York. The original New York Quilt Project identification label also remains attached to the back

The earthy browns, indigos, and workwear fabrics strongly reflect rural scrap traditions of the interwar period and make up the bulk of the beautiful scrappy triangle piecing. Bold red polka-dot triangles contrast beautifully with early shirtings, plaids, stripes, and small florals. This piece is not quilted but is hand tied.

The back is a thin-striped blue on off-white cotton that has been turned to the front and machine-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is medium weight.

The quilt is in excellent antique condition with some minor age-related toning on the front and back. See photos.
