This vibrant and beautifully executed Lone Star quilt dates to the early–mid 1930s. The fabrics, construction, and color palette firmly place it in the 1932–1938 period and is composed of a collection of 1930s prints — lavender polka dots, mint geometrics, bold red florals, shirting-style blacks and whites, orange plaids, and bright sunshine yellow.
One fabric incorporated into the star is a yellow novelty print featuring a horse-and-rider motif with medallions dated “1776.” It strongly suggests a Revolutionary War reference possibly inspired by Paul Revere, the type of Colonial Revival print that was popular during the 1930s.
The entire quilt is finely hand quilted in a simple diamond grid pattern within the star and in unique geometric and flower shapes within the yellow ground. The back is yellow cotton, as is the binding that has been hand-stitched to both sides. The cotton batting is unsized and lightweight.
This quilt is in excellent vintage condition with no issues noted.
