Vintage 1930s–1940s Touching Stars Cutter Quilt – Nine Large Stars – 72” x 76”

$199.00

  • Details
This beautiful antique Touching Stars quilt dates to approximately 1930–1945 and features nine large touching star blocks, each composed of layered star points radiating from dramatic centers. Five of the stars remain completely intact, while four show some fabric loss consistent with age and use (see photos).

The fabrics are classic late Depression-era cottons — ginghams, plaids, chrome yellow checks, pink micro-prints, black-and-white checks, soft greens, purples, and blues — all set against crisp white fields with a lavender double border framing the quilt.

The quilt is entirely hand pieced and hand quilted, with the hand-quilting in outlines of the patchwork and - in the open white areas - in feather wreaths with stipple-quilted centers. The quilting along the border is in a unique interlocking petal pattern. The hand quilting remains strong and adds wonderful texture.

The back is a gauzy white cotton while the binding is lavender cotton that has been hand-stitched to both sides. The cotton batting is very lightweight.

Because of the fabric losses in four stars, beginning fraying of the binding and one small (1-inch) tear in the binding, this quilt is priced as a cutter/crafting quilt.
