This vintage scrappy LeMoyne Star quilt top is a beautiful example of Depression-era patchwork made from a charming assortment of feed sack and dress cotton fabrics. The quilt features classic eight-point LeMoyne Star blocks arranged in a grid with vibrant red sashing. The stars are hand-stitched while the sashing has been machine-stitched to the star blocks.
Each star is pieced from diamonds and showcases period fabrics, including delicate florals, tiny geometric prints, shirtings, and dotted cottons—many consistent with authentic feed sack textiles that were widely used by thrifty quiltmakers of the Depression era.
Condition: This piece is a quilt top only and was never layered with batting or backing. Many quilt tops from this period were left unfinished due to the scarcity of materials during the Depression and wartime years. It remains in excellent condition with some minor, light, age-related toning that will likely come out in a soak (this top has not been soaked).
