  • Details
This is a beautiful 1944 Washington Stamp quilt, made from more than 1500 hand-stitched 2-inch squares and hand embroidered with the date “Sept. 29 ’44.” The pattern is an early American scrap pattern, closely associated with resourceful quilting traditions which are carried on here where the quilter has incorporated hundreds of feedsack and dress fabrics.

The palette features mint greens, pinks, blues, lavenders, and buttery yellows, alongside cheerful florals, polka dots, plaids, and small geometrics typical of feedsack textiles. A coordinating green-leaf-patterned border frames the quilt. The hand-quilting is tiny and precise and in patterns of diagonal grids throughout the quilt.

The back is a beautiful green cotton as is the binding that has been hand-stitched to both sides. The cotton batting is very lightweight.

The quilt is in excellent vintage condition with no issues noted.
