  • Details
This mid-century quilt is an example - and a large one - of a work-intensive fold-as-you-go or folded hexagon construction technique that sets it apart from traditional hexagon or flower garden quilts. Dating to the 1960s–1970s, each 2-inch hexagon has been individually folded, hand-stitched closed, then hand-stitched to the next folded hexagon and so on.

The result is a richly layered, colorful and beautiful hexagon quilt. The back is the reverse of the folded hexagons (see photos) and there is no batting required, nor is there binding. The quilt is composed of a variety of mid-century cotton prints, including:
    • Cheerful 1950s florals
    • Bright novelty prints
    • Plaids, ginghams, and stripes
    • early printed cottons
These fabrics are set against crisp white hexagons, making each colorful “flower” to stand out.

CONDITION: The quilt is in excellent vintage condition with no issues noted.

    Details:
    • Entirely hand sewn with meticulous attention to detail
    • Distinctive folded hexagon technique (not paper pieced)
    • Dimensional, almost origami-like texture
    • Dense, all-over pattern with no repeated blocks
    • Size: 81” x 100” (generous size – suitable for a queen bed)

The quilt is from a smoke-free, pet-free home and is pictured on a queen-size bed.
