This is a visually striking early 20th century Touching Stars Quilt with a bold color palette and classic geometric layout. This was made between 1900-1920s when the brighter aniline dyes and commercially produced cottons allowed quiltmakers to create pieces with fresh, saturated color that is still vibrant today.

The quilt is entirely hand-pieced and hand-quilted, with the quilting in outlines of the patchwork, in sunbursts in the blue squares, in tight cross-hatch grids and - along the four-sided border - in diagonals. The back is white cotton while the binding is blue cotton that has been machine stitched to the front and hand-stitched to the back. The cotton batting is lightweight.

CONDITION: The quilt is in excellent antique condition with some age-related fading of the fabrics and beginning fraying of the binding. The quilt has been soaked and hand-washed and is sturdy.
