This vibrant Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt is full of charm and color—with soft pastels, bright pops of color, and a relaxed, timeworn feel, it has a cottagecore vibe. Dating to the 1950s–1960s, the quilt is in the classic hexagon-pieced Grandmother’s Flower Garden pattern, with each flower composed of a mix of mid-century fabrics, including cheerful florals, ginghams, novelty prints, and bold solids.

The hand quilting is in outlines of the more than 2,000 hexagons, each of which has been hand-stitched in this very large quilt. While most of the hexagons are cotton, some of them are early cotton-poly blends. Ironically (especially in this day of seemingly indestructible polyesters) these early cotton-poly blends were fragile due to the heavy use of formaldehyde-based resins to make them "permanent press" or "wrinkle resistant". As a result, use of the resins could make the fabric rigid and prone to cracking/shattering.

CONDITION: The quilt is in overall good condition, but is being sold and is priced as a cutter quilt due to the shattering (likely caused by the resins described above) of some of the hexagons in 3 of the gardens (impacting about 25 hexagons total) and a small tear of about an inch on one edge. In fact, this quilt is still lovely and sturdy and displays beautifully with an authentic, lived-in cottagecore character.
