This is both a lovely quilt and a unique one in many ways. Made in a variation of the Wild Goose Chase pattern and dating to the 1890s, it has a wonderful graphic layout of pieced triangles in the classic “flying geese” motif that have been arranged within diamond medallions. The color palette is coral/salmon set against an off-white/ivory ground. And it has been entirely hand-pieced and hand-quilted in tiny, precise stitching.
The hand-quilting is varied - it is in echo quilting as well as cross-hatch grids, flying geese patterns and concentric triangles. The back is the same off-white/ivory cotton as the front while the coral/salmon border has been turned to the back and hand-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is lightweight.
CONDITION: The quilt has been well cared for and is in excellent, sturdy antique condition with some overall age-related fading of the fabrics.
