This vintage mid-to-late 1930s Northern Lights quilt is a lovely example of Depression-era scrap quilting with interlocking radiating starbursts pieced across a soft buttercream background. The fabrics include: * Classic 1930s feedsack florals and ditsy prints * Cheerful polka dots, stripes, and small geometrics * Turquoise, pink, lavender, and chrome yellow tones
The quilt is hand-pieced and hand-quilted with the quilting in echoes of the "northern lights" patchwork with circular intersections connecting the interlocking "stars". It is finished with a scrappy patchwork border that is scalloped on two sides.
The back is white cotton while the quilt has been knife-edge finished and hand-stitched closed. f
CONDITION: The quilt has been soaked, hand-washed and line-dried. It is clean and sturdy and in excellent vintage condition with no issues noted.
