This is a wonderfully timeworn and well-loved late 19th century basket quilt made of tiny pieced baskets scattered across a soft white ground. The baskets are made of a combination of pale cadet blue handles, mourning-style gray and black prints and faded double-pink fabrics with the baskets made of tiny 1/2" x 1" triangles, so small that this would have taken the painstaking effort of an expert quilter. The quilting is also tiny and in a pattern of double diagonal/cross-hatch grids throughout the quilt.

The back is white cotton that has been turned to the front and hand-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is lightweight.

CONDITION: This quilt is sturdy and beautiful but is being sold as a cutter quilt because there is fabric loss throughout portions of the basket piecing, particularly in some of the tiny pink diamonds and lighter fabrics. See photos. Despite the wear, the quilt still displays beautifully.
