This beautiful 1930s Flanders Poppy Appliqué Quilt has wonderful red and cheddar hand appliquéd poppies with green serpentine stems while the entire quilt has been intricately hand quilted in scrolling spirals, crosshatch grids and outlines of the applique. The poppies have also been hand-embroidered to add details. The quilt has a four-sided border with scalloped edge.
The "Flanders Poppy" quilt is became popular in the 1930s and specifically the years surrounding 1934 - it is an appliqué design inspired by the World War I remembrance poppy and the poem "In Flanders Fields".
The back is white cotton while the binding is bright red cotton that has been hand-stitched to both sides. The cotton batting is lightweight.
The quilt is in excellent vintage condition with no issues noted.
