$159.00

  • Details
This is a remarkable 19th century Amish Basket Quilt made from very early linen fabrics in soft faded rose and butternut tones, with extraordinary hand quilting throughout. It is entirely hand pieced and hand quilted. The hand quilting is in fine clamshell motifs in the border and in double and triple diagonals along with geometric motifs in the body of the quilt.

The fabrics are a very old type of homespun linen with a wonderfully soft hand, subtle slubbing, and beautiful age-related texture throughout.

The back is a beige/tan linen that has been turned to the front and hand-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is very lightweight.

CONDITION: Unfortunately, sometime during its long life the quilt was cut down one side and part of one border was removed entirely (See photos). Because of this major structural alteration, along with multiple toning spots that may come out with a soak, the quilt is being sold as a cutter quilt. The quilt also has scattered fading, discoloration, edge wear, small holes, and age-related wear throughout as shown. The central field of the quilt remains visually stunning and is intact.
