This wonderful antique primitive Ocean Waves Quilt is made with deep indigo blues, cadet blues, soft shirtings, pinks, turkey reds, and tiny geometric prints arranged in rolling diagonal movement across the surface of the quilt. Entirely hand pieced and hand tied, this quilt has a unique interior construction for a hand-tied quilt.
The quilt contains cotton batting partially wrapped in an open-weave gauze or scrim fabric — an uncommon primitive construction method associated with early handmade batting preparation before commercially produced batting became widely available. This is rarely found detail in a quilt.
CONDITION: Primitive antique condition with wear, several seam separations exposing the scrim batting, all consistent with age and use. The quilt remains wonderfully displayable with outstanding primitive character. At the top it appears that someone in the last 20-30 years has added the blue plaid cotton and used a sewing machine to attach it. The quilt remains sturdy and displays beautifully.
