This wonderful antique primitive hand-tied Broken Sash Quilt has bold graphic charm and honest handmade character. It comes with a note about its provenance that attributes the quilt to Cora Gee Welty of Presho, New York (about 5 minutes from the Pennsylvania border) who made it in 1919. It is a striking red and white Broken Sash quilt that combines vivid early cotton prints with soft aged ivory fabrics.
Entirely hand pieced and hand tied, the back is a tiny star print that has been turned to the front and hand-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is medium weight.
CONDITION: The quilt is in very good condition with toning spots on the front and back (see photos). Because this age toning is consistent with the quilt's genuine antique/primitive character, it has not been soaked, though a soak would likely remove most or all of the toning.
