This is a cheerful and graphic vintage Washington Sidewalk Quilt dating to the 1940s–1950s and made from a mix of florals, plaids, and novelty cotton prints in bright happy colors. The vivid green sashing frames each block and borders the quilt on all four sides.
This quilt has a warm, homey mid-century Americana feel, with its combination of florals, checks, conversation-style prints, and soft cottage colors. Its zig-zagging lattice style effect across the surface of the classic Washington Sidewalk pattern -- which changes depending on how it's displayed - is a quirky side-effect of the way it has been hand-stitched. The sewing-machine quilting is in crosshatch grids throughout the quilt.
The back is white cotton while the green cotton border has been turned to the back and hand-stitched to form the binding. The cotton batting is lightweight.
CONDITION: The quilt is in excellent vintage condition with no issues noted. The quilt has been soaked, hand-washed and line-dried, giving a light natural sun-dried cotton scent (not artificially fragranced).
