Rare 1920s Vintage Going Around the Mountain Variation Quilt | Concentric Design | Hand Quilted | 66"x78"

An exceptionally unusual interpretation of the classic Going Around the Mountain pattern, this quilt dates to the late 1920s or early 1930s and features striking concentric bands of vivid color radiating outward from a hand-appliquéd center medallion. This is a rare Depression-era quilt with an unusual geometric design.

It is entirely hand quilted with simple parallel quilting around the concentric squares and the inner circle. The yellow circle in the center is surrounded by a lavender ring and both are finished with decorative embroidered blanket stitching in contrasting red thread.

The fact that the quilt is made from feedsack fabrics is confirmed by the original feedsack print on two small areas on the front that retain the black stenciled printing from the original cotton sacks. See photos. The rest of the color palette combines bright red and yellow with lavender, aqua, white, pale green, buttery yellow, and a delicate blue floral print. The overall effect is modern-looking despite the quilt’s nearly century-old age.

The back is white cotton while the binding is red cotton that has been machine stitched to the front and handstitched to the back. The cotton batting is lightweight.

CONDITION: Excellent vintage condition. The feedsack printing remains visible on the front and is considered part of the quilt’s original construction and history rather than a flaw. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the description.
